Herbal support for healthy blood sugar levels.

Glucose, or blood sugar, is the most basic fuel used by every cell in the body. Digestion breaks complex carbohydrates, proteins, and other foods down into simpler elements that can be carried by the blood to the cells as needed. Since the cells’ needs vary with different activities, simple sugars and starches are stored in the liver and fatty tissues and released into the blood as required. This process is controlled by hormones created and released by the pancreas. These include glucagon, which tells the liver to release more sugar into the blood stream, and insulin, which tells the the cells of the body to store and/or bum off excess glucose.

Insulin resistance is a common side effect of our modem western diet, and can result in fatigue, irritability, mood and energy swings, lack of mental concentration and focus, and other symptoms.

Based on a traditional Chinese formula used for hundreds of years, Blood Sugar Balance has been updated to be more effective as a blood sugar tonic. The basic formula (bai flu tang, or white tiger decoction) was published in The Synopsis of the Golden Cabinet (Jin Gui Yao Lue) by Zhang Zhongjing, in 219 AD. A common variant in China is bai flu jia ren sheng tang, which adds Ginseng to nourish vitality, but we use Eleuthero root (sometimes erroneously called Siberian Ginseng) instead. Like Ginseng, Eleuthero is a powerful adaptogen that helps the body deal with stress, but Eleuthero is gentler than Ginseng, and more specifically supports natural regulation of blood sugar levels, whether they trend upward, downward, or are merely erratic. For best results, Blood Sugar Balance should be combined with sensible programs of adequate rest, proper diet and exercise.
