A recent study on Lignisul MSM™ (MethylSulfonylMethane), a nutritional supplement that supplies biologically active sulfur, indicates it may offer a safe, non-toxic way to help ease the pain of arthritis.
MSM™ is a naturally-occuring sulfur compound found in our bodies as well as in many common beverages and foods, including milk, coffee, tea and green vegetables. In its purified form it is an odorless, white, water soluble crystalline solid. It is one of the least toxic substances in biology, similar toxity to water.
Naturally-occuring sulfur, such as that found in Lignisul MSM™, is not similar to inorganic sulfides, sulfites and sulfates to which many people are allergic.
Some of sulfur’s essential functions include maintaing structur of the proteins in the body, helping the formation of keratin which is essential for hair and nail growth, aiding in the production of immunoglobulin which maintains the immnune system and catalyzing the chemical reactions which change food into energy.
Arthritis, Muscle and Joint Pain
In 1998, Ronald M. Lawrence, M.D. Ph.D Executive Director for the Council on National Nutrition completed a study to examine the effects fo Lignisul MSM™ on arthritis, muscle and joint pain. The double-blind, placebo-controlled study showed that more than 80% of those that took 2,250 mg of Lignisul MSM™ daily for six weeks reported an 82 percent average improvement in pain relief, compared to an 18 percent improvement by patients receiving a placebo.
